Tony Silbert – President

 Tony Silbert began his career in the community benefit sector in 1986 leading urban youths on wilderness adventures. Since then, he has worked with organizations of all sizes, covering virtually every aspect of the nonprofit world, including health & human services, education & youth development, arts & culture and the environment. In addition to serving as a trusted counselor and strategic guide, he has helped clients win more than 1,000 grant awards totaling more than $100,000,000. These funds have enabled Tony’s clients to build their capacity, expand programs, construct new facilities, and sustain their operations. 

Tony graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a Bachelors degree in Philosophy.  He received his Masters in Public Policy from the University of Southern California – where he taught grantsmanship to graduate students in the Price School of Public Policy.  He was previously the Director of Foundations, Grants & Research at the American Jewish University.  Prior to that, he was a Grant & Contract Officer at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

 Tony is a founding Board Member of The Harmony Project, a nationally acclaimed, award-winning nonprofit organization that builds healthier children, families and communities through music.  He has been a contributing writer for Foundation & Corporate Grants Alert and CharityChannel’s Grants & Foundations Review, as well as a speaker and contributor for various efforts to educate the “nonprofit” community.  Most recently, he was one of the 25 experts included in Grant Writing Revealed: 25 Experts Share Their Art, Science, and Secrets.

 Candace Malta – Senior Consultant

Since joining SCS in 2009, Candace has worked with nonprofit organizations across Los Angeles County to help them achieve their mission in a variety of areas, including homelessness, literacy, education, and health services. Her primary expertise is developing and writing grant proposals, and she has helped clients win major grants from many private foundations and government sources. Her proposals consistently score among the highest in competitive grant processes, with major awards from HUD, DPSS, DMH, First 5 LA, United Way and many more.

Candace’s past experience includes positions at Teach For America, where she was Development Director for the Los Angeles regional office, North Los Angeles County Regional Center and Rocky Mountain Adventist Healthcare Foundation. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of California at Irvine, graduating cum laude, and Master’s Degree in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles.
